Taking regional winter destination development next level with #skinorthbc

Skiing in BC is a major industry… but how do you bring new eyes and new visitors to an under-represented part of the province?

How do you convince skiers and snowboarders who only know Whistler or Big White or Kicking Horse to make their way up north—away from six-pack heated bubble lifts, four-star dining and international hotel chains—and towards the unassuming, soulful ski towns of northern BC?

SnowSeekers can tell you exactly how. Together with most of BC's northern ski industry, destination partners including Smithers and Quesnel collaborate with Seekers Media via the DBC marketing co-op #skinorthbc. Over this now seven-year collective, the partners and SnowSeekers began by building destination awareness, presenting their awesome stories and experiences to be had across BC's North.

Over the years, the campaign has reached millions of skiers and riders leading to tangible results, including substantial community follower growth on the partners social media channels, and also business results including an annual rolling 5 to 8% lift ticket sales increase at participating ski resorts.

Proven through the town of Smithers MRDT statistics, the town has also seen an annual increase of winter hotel room sales December through April while the campaign supports its resident attraction strategy, bringing together Tourism Smithers, Smithers Airport, Hudson Bay Mountain Resort and the Smithers Chamber of Commerce.
